finally got around to listening to this episode of Code Switch. the second half with Sarah Gaither from the Duke Identity and Diversity Lab, especially, about not belonging twice over, really spoke to me. it was validating to hear. (i'd be interested in more from her lab)

although, the sign off comments from gene demby were actually kind of hurtful. like i get that there are ways that mixed people enable all kinds of internalised racism, but it's painful and fraught to try to find one's place in a world where you don't even look like your family, and they are the ones to call you & treat you as a foreigner in your own home.

what i've come to find is that mixed people are my people. it almost matters less what the mix is (like, let's be real, colorism and other intersections are still going to be a thing), but that so many of us experience this otherness in common.
