Winter will be lingering a while yet, so I’ll just have to admire bare trees some more! This fellow is a #Sassafras #Tree and a particularly tall (71’ / 21.6 m) and vigorous one at that. The crown has a bit of a Pagoda Dogwood look: one central leader and dense branches between long branchless sections. I’ve also seen them compared to upside-down umbrellas, fittingly, the twigs are upswept.

#sassafras leaves. #fallleaves sassafras tastes great. The artificial version of sassafras flavoring is known as rootbeer. Trust me- after having real sassafras rootbeer is gross.
