> The Satellite Constellations 2 (SATCON2) workshop was held virtually 12–16 July 2021 to discuss how to implement the mitigation strategies that emerged from SATCON1 to minimize the negative impacts of satellite constellations on astronomy and the night sky.

Profit (for already giant companies) is ruining the , putting observations (professional and casual) in jeopardy (to refer only one aspect), with the complacency of many. Absence of regulation plus the general indifference to blame. Running fast to a “now is too late” situation.

While it's likely a temporary change for operational reasons, it suggests a possible more permanent (partial) mitigation for from large .

IAU CPS Statement on BlueWalker 3
Unfortunately, the last four paragraphs seem to maintain the timid logic of a “consensus” doomed to failure. Pats on the back of the promoters of the isn’t the way to go. Promoters have shown to be everything but interested on the impacts and on their reduction.
There’s the need of a much stronger condemnation from the scientific community. We are losing the night skies.

Of, course, I'd feel a bit better about our odds of seeing a dangerous asteroid before it hits us if we were working to rebuild the radar capability that we lost with the ...

... or if the night sky wasn't being cluttered with a LOT more reflective satellites, causing more confusion for the telescopes that are tasked with finding such objects. 🙃
