Leafing through this beautiful revised and expanded edition of #The500YearsOfIndigenousResistenceComicBook by #GordHill has my branches just quivering… When he updates this again, I hope he adds star story of the Garifuna resistance to French and English rule on so-called #StVincent was so fierce that the island remained in conquered for appx 100 years after the first attempts and fort the colonizers eventually built still has its canons facing back inland, rather than out to sea, because the threat was greater from the indigenous people than from other Europeans (the only island in the Caribbean with that proud distinction). Mad respect to #Satuye/ #JosephChatoyer, the Garifuna chief who was killed after a betrayal in 1795.
