At Winter #Solstice, we celebrate the beginning of the return of #Saule / #Sun but should take some time to reflect on and appreciate the darkness of this season of long nights. #Darkenss is often considered synonymous with negativity,/evil, but it shouldn't be so- darkness = #rest, the spark of #Life, #gestation happens in darkness, #blood and #sap flow in darkness. Much #Germination and all the myriad processes of #soil life take place in darkness. #pagan #animist #Latvian

last week's #SixOnSaturday #WinterSolstice is rapidly approaching- the Great Grandmother of all other mid-winter #celebrations! #Saule/Sun makes us cherish her light all the more for its scarcity, as she summer dozes on the other side of the world! Our coloured #holiday #lights speak of sunset colouring #snow shafts of sunlight setting crystals aglow and warm protective flames that keep the darkness at bay. #pagan #animist #Latvian #birds #nature

@plants #SixOnSaturday for last week. As #Solstice draws nearer, everything becomes about #light Someone does lots of #decorating in the house (they call them #Christmas decorations, Solstice to me!) , low-budget version using stuff we already have, some cheap additons etc.. meanwhile #SnowMother and #Saule play with light and shadow outdoors- amd I may have added a little extra (1 photo) in editing 😉 #gardening #pagan #Latvian #animist

centre top Cotoneaster sp in fall colour- there are a few bird sown individuals of this non-native on the farm- mostly visible in #autumn! bot- wild Vaccinium caespitosum- great colour from orangey reds to burgundies--
