Thinking about running a couple of horror one-shots, has anyone run much horror in Savage Worlds?

It's my favourite system at the moment but some of what I love about it might make it just not a good fit for horror.

This is hard to say, but probably #SavageWorlds. As I said earlier this month, I can't really think of anything about it that I hate.

I love #Hackmaster (the "new" edition is more than 10 years old, folks, and has been around longer than the old edition), but it's got its lumps. I grew up on #Rifts #PalladiumFantasy #Shadowrun and #2e, but I can't really go back to them.

#RPGaDay2023 Day 31: Favourite #RPG of all time.

Based purely on the number of times I’ve played it over the years it has to be #DnD. I have a preference for #DnD5e or #BX (specifically #OldSchoolEssentials).

Outside of that one though and it’s probably a toss-up between #TopSecretSI and #SavageWorlds. Probably Savage Worlds as I play that more nowadays.

@nukehavoc Thanks! I've so many #FitD games waiting 4 play, they'd make a multiverse. I want to house rule #Scum And Villainy and Gambits into #BladesInTheDark . #SavageWorlds is the only thing I haven't seen in your lisf, but have to one shot one day.

My latest experiences are: #Runequest, #Questworlds (Really Heroquest in #Glorantha), #Gumshoe: Swords of the Serpentine is great and #BelongingOutsideBelonging one shot of This Night on the Rooftops that was electrifying with family.

In the past few months my favourite game is Savage Worlds.
I've played a couple of sessions but I've run a good few more.

Am I way off here:

The starting attributes seem too low to me.
Is it that having a d4 in something isn't a big deal?

To me it's like having a 1 on a 1-5 scale which seems bad.

Friendly discussion only in responses please. Not looking for a fight online about my favourite RPG, I'd just like some opinions.

Hell on Earth

Noir

Then very distantly Lost Colony.

I'm not even sure why Lost Colony never clicked with me, but I disliked it when I bought the original box set. Just never clicked with me, which I found surprising because I love SciFantasy.

Noir is weird. I both like and dislike it. Can't explain it better.

Has Deadlands: Hell on Earth been updated to SWADE at this point?

The #SavageWorlds one-shot went pretty well!

I'm not convinced about it, but I have now bought the main rule book, just to look through it.

I'm not sure it's differentiated enough to make it worth investing a lot of time in, though.

Would I play in a promising campaign using it? Sure.

Will I run my own Savage Worlds campaign? At this point, probably not.

Next up: #SavageWorlds

I'm actually running the "Test Drive" today! And it was explicitly recommended to me as easier to set up and run than a Genesys game.

And their main Discord is more hoppin’, with new games popping up every week.

I guess I'm on the fence about it, though?

Seems pretty complicated.

And the "Weird West” setting *isn't* one I'll continue with. I find Wild West settings to be *incredibly* problematic, and not personally appealing.

Part of me wants to find a GM as weird as me to run a Deadlands game, but with fantasy ancestries and such bolted on. I just know I likely wont find anyone with my weird obsession of mashing stuff together. :D
