Popular music venue in #Edinburgh to close, last casualty of Drum Property's war of attrition to get its hated redevelopment through.

The more I read about Citizen the more it seems of interest for people in #Edinburgh but also #Bookchin-friendly types. It has LivingRent, FairFringe and #SaveLeithwalk as members and:
"we don’t start out with a ready-made set of solutions. We have a year-long process where we’re going to create a manifesto of the city, through a participatory process where we’re asking people to reimagine the city as if it wasn’t run for the wealthy and for developers. So that manifesto of the city will be developed by asking people what they think."

A while ago I posted about the #SaveLeithWalk campaign against demolition of buildings including the popular music venue Leith Depot. The campaign scored a victory this week when councillors voted overwhelmingly to reject the plans. #Edinburgh hyperlocal news site Broughton Spurtle has a very detailed report with good quotes from the meeting.
CRUNCH TIME FOR STEAD’S PLACE

Recording studio priced out of #Edinburgh; another victim of Drum Property group's demolition plans (#SaveLeithWalk).
The developers are going for a scorched earth approach: "not considering any temporary lets ... A spokesman said: “The industrial site which sits immediately behind the shop frontages will be empty by the end of August, and the offices above will be empty by the end of September. We would, however, be delighted to consider any suggestions from community groups for public art projects along the shop front hoardings.”
The pub / gig venue Leith Depot's lease runs til Oct 2019, making for a year of eyesore, possibly more if Drum don't get their way.
@bob
The same as Leith Depot threatened by developers, kids! It's farting suffragettes or hedge funds.

An update on the #SaveLeithWalk campaign that could prevent an #Edinburgh #music #venue being shut down.
There was a public meeting a couple of days ago. I wasn't able to attend but the local paper did (https://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/news/thousands-protest-against-50m-student-flats-and-hotel-plan-in-leith-1-4743957)
Lovely quote from the developers:
"“The existing buildings at Stead’s Place are no longer an economically viable investment for us."
i.e. "we can make more money this way."
They don't sound willing to compromise or make friends. Shaping up to be a proper fight I think.
