I really want to get the leveling feet for the #sawmill welded up, but it's way too unpleasant outside. :blobsad:

We need to raise the #sawmill a few inches, so I looked at the leveling feet. At the risk of sounding like an old man, paying $295 for 12 plates with bolts attached to them is ridiculous. Luckily, we know someone with a welder who can make those for us.
That's us, by the way. We do the #welding.
I have stickers! If you haven’t dried wood before, stickers are pieces of wood put between freshly sawn boards and slabs so they dry evenly. I have a stack of logs waiting for me and now I have stickers stack the slabs. #woodworking #urbanwood #woodslabs #sawmill

Todays job is shelf building. I planed some more pine 2x4s from rough sawn lumber we milled back in fall 2021 and has been air drying since.
Aiming to extend this shelving unit that I built last week down one side. I’ll be securing it to the shipping container again to make it extra strong.

This morning's challenge: getting a log longer than the portal in the (unfinished) #sawmill shed onto the bed of the mill by myself? Tricky. But can I do it? Yes.
Ten square metres of usable sarking out of that one log.
My wife is out of town this weekend, so I had some friends over yesterday for a little forestry adventure camp. We felled a tree that was falling over and got it bucked up and drug to the #sawmill. Then we welded on some new mounting hardware for a patio table. One of the group was a chef at one point and brought over enough beef stew for an army. I need to figure out how to do this for a living.

Biggest log we've sawn yet. We got one piece at 200x50, four at 100x50, and two at 200x25, all 4700mm long. We can in theory saw 5 metres, but it would take awfy careful positioning of the log.
The ramps, which I made yesterday, were an excellent idea, making loading the log onto the bed much easier.

Goodmorning! It's #WaterfallWednesday again! Here we see a #Swiss #sawmill. Like many things in #Switzerland it's waterpowered. This one you can find on the #Schwarzwaldalp. Take the bus, because driving here is possible but very hard on the nerves 😂

We're back in the winter rainy season here at the house, so I put a tarp over the lumber from the #sawmill. Remind me to take that down in a few days so the mice don't nest in it. #lifeinthewoods
My shoulder hurts. It couldn't possibly be from 3 hours of laying across the #sawmill rails trying to get the blade 4/4 off the deck.
It's not supposed to rain for the next couple days (jinx!), so I'll probably do some maintenance at the #sawmill. A dry day is rare at this time of year, so I need to take advantage.
Cleaning out my woodworking workshop. It's bitter sweet.
I got to build a really nice custom shed, with Aircon, 60 amp (3x20) circuits (2x110 1x220), air filtration, dust collector, sawstop and a bunch of other bits.
But I'll get to rebuild it in a much larger shed in Australia. (TBD but a decent shed is my hard requirement for the house we buy).
I think this time I won't run right in for the $5000 table saw, I'll focus a bit more on some hand tools. Perhaps event do a CNC now that I'll have space.
I also want to buy/build a small portable wood sawmill. Maybe a chainsaw mill. Perhaps run a side gig cutting and slabbing wood.

Since the time has changed and the sun is already up, I'll go ahead and get some work done at the #sawmill this morning.
