In 2022 we decided to not use our unflued gas heater over winter and instead rely on our reverse cycle air con unit. We also added a second unit to the other end of the house after last summers ridiculous temperatures, 11 days over 40°C. Our house is a 1950s build with poor insulation and terrible ventilation and needs to be upgraded but is an expesive process with all the asbestos built into the place. Gas stove and water heating systems next on the agenda.

How did this affect our energy usage?
10MWh of electricity generated by our 5kW system
Electricity imported slightly up and gas usage halved.
Solar self use up 1MWh to 40%
Total energy use, included cars, down 12% from 2021.

Costs increase by AU$100 as gas has remained very cheap here in WA due to #statecapture and a govt that requires X amount of gas at Y price for the domestic market. We also have a 50% discount so it would have been cheaper for us to continue to use gas for our heating.
