Having stepped away from Reddit I do kinda miss the #SBCgaming community. Got an email this morning about the new Retroid Pocket 2S that I'm sure there's some lively chatter about over there still!

My #miyoomini (v2) screen seems to no longer function. The device boots, sound works and from that I can infer that games run and the menu is fine, so no SD card or mobo brick. But the screen backlight works, but not actual image. Attempted to fix the ribbon cable but no luck. Anyone had this experience? Suggestions?

@AndyGER if it’s ultimate ease you may like to look into #SBCgaming handheld options. I’ve got an Retroid Pocket 3 which plays everything up to and including PS1 / N64 a close to perfect as makes no odds, is a great portable size, and also has HDMI output (albeit limited to 720p) and works with Bluetooth controllers for throwing up on a TV screen for couch-time play as well.

Has Nintendo’s nasty little 3DS firmware update been worked-around for applying CFW yet?

I see Anbernic are putting out something to make an even more compact take on the Miyoo Mini. Looks cute but also looks way too small to actually be fun to use. But that’s me, I struggled with the Game Boy Micro that I know a lot of people get on with well.

I tried applying light bleed fix to my #anbernic #rg351p (first 2 photos are not mine, I have the issue happening on the top and bottom of the first one, NOT like the left side)

Well.. it didn't fix it, the screen is like that and I see only on pure blacks 🤷‍♂️

I’ve been into retro gaming lately and it’s nice to have on device that can play most of the older gaming systems. I’ve been traveling a lot this year and having this in the bag has been invaluable. Sure it’s no steamdeck but it fulfills a need and was only $99. So no complaints from me!

@nonphotoblue I had definitely thought about something like a PiBoy, but there’s a lot going on in life right now, so perhaps a build project isn’t ideal 😅

The Pocket looks pretty nice too, but cores for other consoles are still needing some work. Plus the shipping fee for one to the UK is absurd. There’s a whole world of devices in the #SBCgaming niche (not many around here yet, but there’s a lively subreddit) - which can result in choice paralysis!
