I continued to press. I asked why Singtel, Singapore’s largest telco, is using an Australia VOIP line to call their customers?! I then suggested that they need to try a bit harder when they want to scam their customers to at least make it more plausible.

He hung up. 😂

2/ He proceeds to tell me that some “foreign users” are using my “Internet line”. If they do anything illegal, I would be held liable. He nicely asked if I would like to purchase some security product he was selling.

I asked why he was calling me from an Australia number if he was from Singtel.

1/ Ah,.. phone scams… Why do I still answer calls from strange numbers? They can be entertaining! I just got a call from a +61 (Australia) number, and the guy on the other end of the line, with a rather strong accent, claimed he was from “Singtel’s Technical Department” and was calling about my “Internet Line”.

First red flags… we don’t use “Technical Department” here, nor do we refer to our broadband as “Internet Line”. But I digress!

Is it only me? (It can't be only me), but there seems to be an accelerating number of scam calls to my landline in the last few weeks. I mean, I know they arrive in waves, but this last 10 days or so they've been constant.

Fortunately, the autodiallers are fairly easy to identify when they call and I simply hang up before anything starts, but what a pain in the arse they are becoming.
