Can someone recommend some #HorrorGames that aren't... Like, is there a term for the hide and seek style of Amnesia, Outlast and other similar titles? They're good, don't get me wrong, but I'm not in the headspace for that, and that's on me.

One of my favorite horror games ever is #ScarletHollow, and that's a visual novel without jumpscares nor timed events. It's just you and the consequences of your actions. I also like Dredge.

I did also greatly enjoy Misao and Mad Father, which have chase sequences but they're scripted.

So horror games that cause stress and fear not from the need to react quickly to any given situation, but from the mood and themes. Does any of that make sense?

Maybe I should try Omori and OFF.

Is it just an excuse to talk about #ScarletHollow and the wonders of #VisualNovels?

Finally played through the first 4 episodes of #ScarletHollow and I love it. I never played horror games before, but I like visual novels and story-based games. Seeing my Tumblr mutuals enjoying the game also helped piquing my interest. I'm glad that I decided to play it.

@gamingonlinux That's tough to choose but one of them is definitely #ScarletHollow. It's a horror visual novel where choices matter, there's several datable characters, the mystery is well designed, and there's a trait system that offers replay value. Personally I'm a big fan of the Talk To Animals trait, because some of the animals are the best characters in the game.
