His German films, notably #Metropolis (1927) and #M (1931), anticipated decades of #ScienceFiction movies and #FilmNoir, and in Hollywood he oversaw a remarkable sequence of tough, cynical thrillers including #ManHunt (1941), #ScarletSteeet (1945), #TheBigHeat (1953) and #WhiletheCitySleeps (1956)
