Christian Älvestam is an amazing vocalist. The first time I heard Scar Symmetry, I thought for SURE they had 2 vocalists. The range, from the harsh growling to the angelic vocals, I thought there had to be two people.

No. Just one, Christian. When he left the band they had to replace him with TWO vocalists. I’m so bummed I’ve never seen him perform live and in person. Maybe someday, I hope.

In my opinion the Christian Älvestam years were really the best for Scar Symmetry. I'm still amazed it was mostly just him doing the clean *and* harsh vocals.

Don't get me wrong, they were amazing after the initial break up too. For me, though, it's a bit like listening to Black Sabbath post-Ozzy. You'll never recreate the original magic.

I did not have any expectations whatsoever from this, but the new #powermetal album by Almanac that was just released today is a pleasantly coherent surprise. I was last taken so positively aback by a #band that I didn't think much of before, when Serenity's Codex Atlanicus came out last January.

This is especially noteworthy, precisely because most bands nowdays are on a steady decline with each new release, such as #sum41, #scarsymmetry and so on.
