Planning on doing a bit of a push on getting more ORCIDs in our CRIS system over the summer.

Have any of y'all had any successful initiatives? I'd love to hear about them!

Thought-provoking reflections for from Serge Horbach, @tonyRH and Ludo Waltman, on forms of (double-anonymous or not, open reports or not, etc).

They suggest that preferences for double-anon may be slowing down our adoption of newer models (e.g. pre-printing, publish-review-curate). And that double-anon doesn't really solve implict bias problems but just hides them.

I think those two points need untangling... [more]

Interesting thoughts from Andy Tattersall on how might work better for individual than for institutions.

My impression so far is that I see academic community- building here, but can't work out where the wider policy, , , folks are. (I know some are here, but far fewer, as far as I've been able to find)

Am thinking about how my historical data on journal turnaround times compares to that discussed by Christos Petrou for 2011โ€“2020 on .

He says:
2019/20 - average turnaround time (all disciplines) 163 days

2011/12 (all disciplines), 199 days

scholarlykitchen.sspnet.org/20

My data from (science only):

2009 - about 70 days
2002 - about 280 days
1960 - anything between 210-315 days...

Nice reflections by @peterwebster on scholarly communication in the fediverse โ€œThe reactions of the last few years โ€“ against commercial publishing, against commercial sharing services such as academia.edu, and now against Twitter โ€“ are all in part borne of an objection to commercial capture and exploitation of the activity of scholarly communication.โ€ websterresearchconsulting.com/
