I keep seeing people saying that 16-25% of kids develop long COVID, but I think it's important to state that's what we know *so far*. We don't know that far more, if not all, kids will eventually develop long COVID. We still don't have any evidence that COVID infections aren't universally persistent.

Really disappointed in my teacher’s union. Writing on the wall that schools will drop remaining COVID protections in the fall. I posted the question to the MTEA Facebook page and all I hear are crickets. Early on teachers were overjoyed to drop masking and we have been short staffed all year. After months of pleading for help from my spouse's site rep, in Dec. 2021 I emailed the teachers union president, who never replied.

Much later, while scrolling thru docs from an unrelated records request, I discovered that two hrs after I had sent it, the union prez forwarded my email to the superintendent with a nasty note.

They tried to snitch.

Our union president is a dirty rat. Get this…

In Dec. '21, I emailed them to ask for help, because our schools are allowing the uncontrolled spread of covid.

They never replied.

Instead, two hrs later, they forwarded my email to the superintendent with a nasty note.

They snitched.

Five weeks later, my spouse got covid & now has long covid.

Dozens of schools in the "red state" of Alabama are testing students every damn week for covid, and they're paying kids $15 for each test they take.

If they can pay kids to test in Alabama, we can pay kids to test everywhere.

Some schools in the Texas panhandle switched to a shorter, four-day schedule earlier during the pandemic, and they've stuck with it as the pandemic drags on.

In fact, not-normal seems to be rather popular among students, families, staff & administrators alike, who don't sound too worried about "learning loss."

Though it probably won't completely prevent infections in schools, regular testing is an effective and essential way to reduce the spread.

To sweeten the deal, students get paid $15 for each covid test they take.
