An alternative coach should have been offered, or another company should have offered to take the place of this one.

F***book just threw up a #SchoolTrip #memory. Exactly ten years ago, I took a load of #teenagers to a #careers event. #BorisJohnson showed up (he was Mayor of #London at the time). Hundreds of kids started chasing excitedly, trying to get selfies with him. The students from my #school just stood and stared, looking utterly unimpressed. I've never been so proud.

The trip is completely optional, but the school has a large percentage of pupils on free meals & there's a fair whack of poverty in what used to be an affluent area. Parents can of course say no, but kids are being sent home fired up and wanting to go.

To my mind, it's irresponsible & tone deaf just now. But is it just freedom of choice? Just something parents who don't have £300 to for a trip 90 mins away have to shrug off?
