Double post today, but I also recorded a quick video of my #demo for the hull science festival and uploaded it to YouTube:
The plan is to show how AI models understand natural language.
A PeerTube account is on the todo list, but I want to host that myself and I need to wrangle my infrastructure into order first.

What's the good rule of thumb when choosing the scaling for content on an A0 conference poster? I always thought that generally you design for an A4 piece of paper and just scale up from that, as a larger poster would look about the same from a distance. But I've also noticed that many people do that for up to A1, while A0 is often treated as a double-A1, meaning the scaling is the same as A1 would be, but with twice as much content. #AcademicPoster #PosterDesign #ScienceCommunication

Reminder to all the scientists out there that no matter what you think, you are political. You lost the privilege of being apolitical long ago... Not because you necessarily chose a party but because there's at least one party who has actively made you and your work the enemy. Facts are the political enemy and if you fancy yourself on the side of facts, you are political. Period.
Scientists need to remember this when giving media interviews, or any kind of mass communication in general. Science got made political when it became inconvenient to capitalism. We are all in this political fight whether we like it or not.

This week almost 3000 archaeologists from all over the world will meet in #belfast for the #EAA2023. Our colleagues @jaslon and S. Strang will also be there with contributions in #sciencecommunication and #bioarchaeology

The abstract of this paper is the perfect example of why we need good #ScienceCommunication. An important paper, but so much jargon it’s…painful.
Key messages:
1) #phytoplankton mass in the #SouthernOcean has bloomed later & ended earlier (every year) over the past 25 years = shortening the season
2) less carbon is being taken up each year with serious implications for #ClimateChange https://www.nature.com/articles/s41558-023-01768-4

Absolutely inspiring Meet & Great with Timothy Caulfield at #IUPACCHAINS2023. We talked about many aspects of science communication including, how he started to speak out about misinformation, if scientists should leave twitter and how to communicate outside of our scientific bubble. #Chemistry #ChemiVerse #ScienceCommunication

Scientists,
when you create a project website or a press release, stop putting your list of objectives in the spotlight. Apart from grant-giving bodies, nobody is interested in them. Not the media. Not the general public. Not even your grandma.
If you have achieved your objectives, that’s what everybody will want to know —what did you achieve and why does it matter? If you haven’t achieved your objectives, pasting them left, right and centre is kind of embarrassing

Tackling misinformation during crises is crucial! A study with 5,228 participants from four EU countries examined interventions against climate change and Covid-19 misinformation. Both prebunking & debunking interventions effectively shifted most outcomes. #ScienceCommunication
