Battle of the Worlds (1961) is a delight. Such a treat seeing a nice print. It transcends its low budget with a pace worthy of a condensed serial (very different from Antonio Margheriti’s Gothics) and wild imagination. It offers up a rogue planet closing in on Earth, alien supercomputers, and Claude Rains as a scientist almost as maniacal as in The Invisible Man, but on the side of the angels. So. Much. Fun!

STAR FORCE (1979) is a thing I’ve seen recently thanks to Sinister Cinema, and their catalogue entry is right — this is deeply obscure, has apparently left no internet trace, and is absent from the filmography of its director (who, to my amusement, is also the co-author of the film history textbook I use).

Still one of my favourite 50s SF movies, taking a preposterous premise (growing rocks!) and running with it. The suspense is real, the effects are utterly charming, and that deep, rumbling sound of the rocks must have been something else in the theatres.
