There was a recent piece in by my friend @joncohen that suggested , & are going to interfere with each other, but as we wait:

"Similar stories have been pouring in from around the nation for weeks. I recently spoke with a physician in Connecticut who called this 'by far the worst spike in illness I’ve seen in 20 years'; another in Maryland told me, 'There have been days when there is not an ICU bed to be found anywhere in the mid-Atlantic.'”

I don't mind the number of citations, only the lack of precision it encourages. Even more damaging is citing work for claims that are stated in the abstract and title, but have potential flaws in the actual results.

The policy of some journals is to limit the number of citations (30 for ), which probably helps.

Hydraulic flux–responsive hormone redistribution determines root branching science.org/doi/10.1126/scienc In moist conditions, water flows from the root surface into the phloem, but in a dry spot, water flows instead from the phloem out into the root tissues. This reverse flow carries along the phloem-derived hormone abscisic acid, which closes off intercellular pores, blocking the ability of the hormone auxin to initiate lateral root development.
