Wow, I just discovered the process of adding an author to a paper after review, at Wiley.
Who hurt you, Wiley? I think getting German citizenship was easier đ

Doesn't this go double-at the very least-or #SciencePublishing ? What percentage of work is worthless? And there's what Dr. Crislip called Newton's Law of Publishing - for each paper, there's an equal an opposite paper.
For the ancients, the problem was access. Useful knowledge was valued and not easy to get. It was only handed down to guild members and apprentices. Now EVERYTHING is available with mentors and training needed to distinguish the gold from the sand.

Just had a moment to try #ChatGPT for searching scientific literature. Complete train wreck. It producing well written summations to a very specific question, but the papers it claims exist do not in fact exist. I did follow up questions asking what references were the source of information and it just made up papers and authors that do not exist.
I also asked it "Who is Marcus Muench, Ph.D.?" as well as the same question for another colleague. Complete well-written rubbish was produced.
My main concern is if some unethical science authors use this to produce articles that are well-written but garbage. At least in the past you had poor writing as a warning that things weren't correct under the hood.

Journals can be great at building networks & communities, & advocating for science & health.
But how much longer can we rely on C19th systems of knowledge distribution to handle the challenges of C21st science?

I'm looking for #medicalillustration #ScienceIllustration help to put together a figure or two for a review article I'm assembling
I was just laid off & this will be an out of pocket expense, so I hope to keep costs down if possible. I can add explicit acknowledgemt in the manuscript if that would be an incentive
Referrals much appreciated

Do you have a good "karma" rule of thumb in relation to how many manuscripts you review vs how many you submit? Or is there no relationship between these? I know some who try to review as many papers as they submit themselves, and others who review twice as many as they submit themselves.
What is your strategy? #sciencepublishing #peerreview

I feel like papers with more than single digit total figures are slowing science down. A lot of it is due to journals and nonsensical additions requested by reviewers that have nothing to due with whether it's valid as is at submission. We need shorter publications and faster dissemination of valid results. #science #sciencepublishing
