Initial experiments are putting pig kidneys and hearts into human bodies. This is extremely important, as so many people are backed up on waiting lists for organ transplants. This could solve the organ shortage problem.
Remember to be an organ donor!

🥥 Dear #ScientificAmerican,
Going forward, can we please favor the phrase #SocialFabric over the politicized phrase #WelfareState in our discussions of the harms #ArtificialIntelligence (AI) is causing and will continue to cause.
- A reader who gets lit up by the amount of favorable framing sociopathic #TechBros get in media for their dystopian hobbies. 🥥

When I was in 6th/7th grade my family drove 1000 miles to Florida, long drive, five people in the station wagon. 12 year old me finished his book and found that the only reading material in the car was a #ScientificAmerican so I dug in. The first article I tried to read involved macrophages (I think) and from word one I didn't understand anything at all, not a word.
I was absolutely enthralled!
45 years later I'm a #PhD in #Epidemiology.
Your magazine helped do that.
Thanks!

I keep thinking about this article about brain #synchrony and how it relates to art and musical performances. Ideally, for a musical ensemble you would want to players to be on the same page with each other in order to engage others and their brain waves. It’s so beautiful.

I had a great conversation with Tanya Lewis at #ScientificAmerican about the return of the 19th century Comstock laws restricting #abortion. Some states are resurrecting these hoary old laws to prevent sending mifepristone and other abortifacients through the mail. This is something I wrote about a lot in my novel THE FUTURE OF ANOTHER TIMELINE. https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/this-19th-century-obscenity-law-is-still-restricting-peoples-reproductive-rights/
A shout out to Lee Billings at #scientificamerican for his opening to todays newsletter: Ah yes, what better day than April 20th for something to go up in smoke? Our lead story concerns this morning’s test flight of SpaceX’s Starship, a potentially revolutionary launch system that is also the largest and most powerful ever built. The flight ended mere minutes <snip> in what engineers charitably call a “rapid unscheduled disassembly” of both objects.
