Ukuvota is a decision making tool, helping group processes find a consensus.
The name "ukuvota" comes from a Zulu word meaning "to vote" or "to make a decision".

@evantd Good idea in principle, but there are even better (and simpler) voting systems than IRV/STV that may have better chances of getting implemented in the short term, e.g., #ApprovalVoting, which could later be advanced to #ScoreVoting (aka #RangeVoting). If one wants to protect #minorities from being ignored completely by a #majority, then of course something even more advanced is needed...

#Loomio now supports #scorevoting

@muehlfield@social.tchncs.de You heard about #scoreVoting? Simpler than ranked, less information distortion and better simulated utility!
@Coinneach @iona please check out #scoreVoting if you haven't heard of it :) I'm an advocate for small groups to start using it instead of majority, ranked choice or unanimity/'consensus'. Not just for elections, but direct decisions too. Happy to discuss, answer questions. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Score_voting
My talks on post-consensus, cooperative decision-making were well received in Scotland 😀 Thanks to those who promoted and came.
I'm glad to be talking again in #London 💂 on the 16th Aug at #Newspeak house https://douginamug.gitlab.io/posts/2018-06-15_coopdecisionsevent/
I will explore why #scoreVoting is a cooperative practice when #consensus can't be reached. Please come or forward to anyone you think might be interested 💙

Hello! Next week I will be talking in #Edinburgh (and the week after in #Glasgow) about post-consensus, cooperative decision-making 😀
I will explore why #scoreVoting is a cooperative practice when #consensus can't be reached
Please come if you can or forward to anyone in central #Scotland you think might be interested 😗

In a couple of weeks I will be talking in #Edinburgh and #Glasgow about post-consensus, cooperative decision-making 😀
I will be looking into why #scoreVoting is a more cooperative practice than #consensus after a group goes past a certain stage and how to do it.
Please forward to anyone people in #Scotland you think might be interested.

@wu_lee @kavbojka @fabianhjr coops are definitely on my list of 'models which help'
One-person-one-vote on fundamental issues is intrinsically political in my opinion, and epitomizes the principle of equivalence.
There are better and worse ways of implementing this practice! Don't use majority voting before checking out #ScoreVoting https://electology.org/score-voting
@mattcropp yes I saw that too... Didn't thrill me unfortunately! I've yet to see any compelling reason to use rcv over #scorevoting, especially in groups where there is a degree of trust. I chatted with them about this and there was some positive response, Rcv was developed for commission. You asked me for a primer on this ages ago, I'm still plodding along with that whilst setting up a common/coop house, but you can experience the basic setup through https://ukuvota.world/#/ (Cheers @wolfi@aleph.land )
Ever been in a meeting where everyone agrees to do something, but then there is a super-long debate about which time it should happen? It kills me every time...
We tried out a basic, hand-written poll which made deciding a time way quicker and kept the meeting running. I whipped up a printable one too: https://nc.matthias-larisch.de/s/2Vf4MasWbREJe5u

@mattcropp @h @jd There is some strong evidence to suggest that there are real limitations to how much we can care: shared #mentalModels, #dunbarNumber and #cognitiveBias.
When we reach the limits of care, the limit of consensus, then #scoreVoting with the options of 'status quo' and 'none of the above' is the most cooperative #decisionMaking framework I've encountered.

You have three months to try and re-design the UN... go!

Hey! I'm Doug and this is a belated #introduction
I'm actively working on setting up #commons infrastructure and institutions. The pilot project is a couple blocks of flats in East Germany. I've been greatly influenced by #Ostrom in this direction.
I'm also developing theory and practice for #cooperative #decisionMaking. In short, #consensus (as in unanimity) and simple #majority aren't/can't cut it. #scoreVoting provides a much better indication of utility.
In and around mainland Europe.

@cassolotl Glad you're interested in anything other than FPTP! It really is the worst.
However I would seriously recommend you take a quick peer into #ScoreVoting methods like #ApprovalVoting.
All ranking systems have certain 'bugs' which are fixed mathematical properties. (See Arrows Impossibility Theorem)
#ScoreVoting methods avoid these bugs and, additionally, can be conducted without computers.
