Kelvin Stevenson Memorial Church, Kelvinside, Glasgow.
Designed by the architect J.J. Stevenson and completed in 1902, this beautiful church sits high above the River Kelvin in the west end of Glasgow. Topped by a distictive crown tower, it is instantly recognisable from almost any angle.

Sir John Maxwell School, Pollokshaws, Glasgow.
Built in 1907 and thought to be design by John H. Hamilton, this neoclassical styled building has been unused since 2011. For such a magnificent building, it is now in a very sad state of repair and is considered at risk of being lost.

Number 10, Belgrave Terrace, Glasgow.
Built around the 1850s, this stunning blonde sandstone doorway is one of my favourite tenement entrances in the west end of the city (and yes, I know just how geeky it sounds to say I have a favourite tenement doorway!).

The McLennan Arch, Glasgow Green, Glasgow.
Originally built in 1792 as the entrance to the old Assembly Rooms on Ingram Street, this impressive neoclassical stone arch has been moved around the city a surprising number of times before being finally ending up at its current location in 1991.

Beautifully carved bull's head above the entrance to the former meat market on the Gallowgate in Glasgow.
There's another very similar bull's head carving not that far away on a former tannery building in St Andrew's Square.
As far as I know, these are the only two such carvings in Glasgow.

Unusual coat of arms on a building on the corner of Buchanan Street and Gordon Street in Glasgow. I love the Celtic-style knotwork formed by the tails of the two dragons.

St George's in the Fields, Woodside, Glasgow.
When this church was first established in 1824, this part of Glasgow was primarily rural (hence, 'in the Fields'), but it is now surrounded by high density housing. The current building was constructed in the mid-1880s after the original church burned down in 1884.

Castellated accumulator tower of the Four Winds Building in Glasgow. Built for the Clyde Navigation Trust in 1894, this building originally functioned as a hydraulic Pumphouse to power cranes on the Prince's Dock.
There are a number of very similar towers around Glasgow which I presume were built around the same time.

35 Dumbarton Road, Glasgow.
This building always surprises me whenever I pass it. It might not be the most ornate one in Glasgow, but it's still pretty impressive, especially when you realise what it was built to do. It is a sewage pumping station built in 1904 to deal with the effluent created by the rapidly growing city. It just goes to show that you can build something that is both functional and beautiful.
