The Arrochar Alps are less than an hour's drive from Glasgow, and yet they feel like a completely different world. Today, it seemed like I had the entire range to myself. Well, me and this pair of Ptarmigan!

It being the school half-term and reasonable weather, I decided to make my first trip of the year out of the city to climb up to the beautiful Loch Skeen in the hills above Moffat. Well worth the effort!

Looking north today towards Ben Lomond and the Arrochar Alps from the Queen's View, just outside Glasgow.
Despite the heavy frost in Glasgow itself, the mountains remain surprisingly snow-free.

A recent change has been made to the list of Grahams. These were the hills between 2000-2500ft (609.6-762m) with a prominence of at least 150m. Alan Dawson, who created the original list in 1992, has now reduced the lower limit to a round 600m. This increases the number of hills by 9 to a total of 231. The name Grahams comes from Fiona Graham, who compiled a similar list later on in 1992.
