The (apparent) answer to my question, as to whether my Scout Group is the oldest in the area, is that it isn’t, based on the search results showing the numbers that come before it numerically are still attached to other local Groups. This doesn’t surprise me.

What is more fascinating is that AFTER our Group there are some increasingly bigger gaps numerically. I’d seen some larger numbers previously and this is what initially sparked my interest.

We made the local newspaper photo spread for Saturday’s colourful event (well one of the local papers, no sign of us in the other one unless we’re in the paywall). Albeit a “view of the crowd from the stage” effort, and at the back, so our group from Scouts are small. Identifiable, not quite magnifying glass territory.

Do I get bonus points or compensation for being on the fold? 🤔 😜

There is definite pride to had from having one of the most prominent flags at the event.

Had a colourful afternoon.

I only went to say hello and have a look around, but I ended up helping for a few hours.

Got a loan of a necker and hat, they were prepared, naturally. Particularly grateful for the latter as I needed sun protection.

Met some familiar faces and some new ones, including the District Commissioner.

I see this morning my District have opened the selection process for the next locally held Jamboree. The really well known one you knows exists even if you aren’t in Scouts. I knew about it as a kid, and as you know I wasn’t a Scout, it’s that well known around here. To the extent that it’s immediately the place I’d think of for “jamboree” if there was a word association game.

Not in a position to help at this one, but I’d definitely like to at some point in the years ahead.

The Cubs Leadership Team is clearly on the same wavelength. I’m not surprised, but it’s nice to know. Same priorities & logic. I suggested we do the Scottish Thistle Award as it has activities we’d done, or are liable to repeat & it got a very positive response. We’re planning on doing JOTI for one thing. Works multiple Awards at once in some instances, as there’s overlap with UK Awards criteria, some activities we’ve got lined up qualify for 2 Awards.

I’m referring to the Thistle Award and the Rights Challenge Badge.
