Am looking through things for next week and #Cubs resuming…
Do any of you use the Activities/Games on the Scouts UK website regularly?
I want to have something extra for Welcoming new Cubs just in case there’s a gap. Key word searches aren’t the best, and neither are the Filters on the Scouts UK website.
I’ve got a few things in mind from there and other sources already, but I’d rather be overprepared.

“UK's First Net Zero Scout Hall. We were so inspired to hear about the 3rd Bo'ness Scouts, who have installed solar panels and infrastructure making theirs the first net zero Scout Hall in the UK.”

Question for UK Scout Leaders (current and former):
How early from your Role being Full did you start doing courses for Activity Permits?
Obviously getting modules done for the Wood Badge is the priority.
All general comments, thoughts and advice appreciated.
(I saw a Have A Go weekend on Scouts Scotland social media here & it got me wondering. https://lapwinglodge.org.uk/)
Reading one of the local newspapers just now and I see a photo of a parade and various Scout Sections marching as the big picture. So naturally that got my attention.
The article is about the City Of Perth Salute, and the photo is attributed to a pre-Covid edition. They say it’s “highly anticipated” but the Council has only been promoting the event, which is not this but next weekend, for less than a week!
Also I’ve seen nothing asking for attendance from District, or from our Group. #ScoutsUK
This popped up on the #ScoutsUK social accounts today.
Guess I should have a practice tying this on a handkerchief, since I’ve not been invested yet.
I’ve noticed, on the TV, in newspapers, social media, etc, that there are #Scouts, both young people & adult uniformed volunteers, who either don’t use woggles or use #knots & #woggles.
I’m asking all of you who wear a #necker, what do you do & what’s your reasoning?

Other happenings at tonight’s #Cubs Meeting.
Two of the requests from the end of last week DID happen.
1 of our Cubs taught the others to play a game, which happened before we left the Hut premises. I’m amazed this didn’t tire them all out before we all headed to the woods given how swelteringly hot it was. 🌄
Cecil The Caterpillar was performed by a Young Leader. Excellently so. 🐛 Every time I’ve seen it has been top notch, and always slightly different.
Tonight’s Cubs was Outdoor Tracking (we’d done the theory indoors a previous week). The Sixes were merged into 2 groups, 1 group laying a tracking signs and hiding, and the other group played games for 10 minutes to give them time to do it. Then they switched after they were found.
Hiding in the local woods and keeping them all in sight is quite the juggling act.
And when we returned to the Scout Hut I received another badge since it’s Volunteer Week. 👍
I awoke in the early hours this morning, and then out of the blue I had a fundraising idea. So I jotted it down and went back to sleep.
I think with the right organisation we could turn it into a Community Event. I’m thinking it could be run by my Scout Group in unison with the local Primary School’s Parent Council.
Going to give it some more thought before running it past others. It’s not the most original of ideas, but it doesn’t need to be.

In-tents Creations make things out of old Scout tents.
I'm SO there for recycling like this.
That apron is excellent.

Reading the local newspaper’s What’s On section and my eye was unsurprisingly drawn to the “Scouts’ motto” of this headline.
The article mentions “an old Scout handbook with illustrations by Norman Rockwell…”
Does anyone know which one the artist featured in this article is talking about? I’d really like to get a copy, or at least read it.
Had my Scouts Appointment Meeting just now.
Think it went really well. Lovely bunch the Committee members there. Great collective sense of humour, they work really well together, and some interesting connection coincidences to me, be that to the Scout Group I’m at, or the people I’ve met over recent weeks in career change and related volunteering circumstances.
Really buzzing right now. 😀
This week’s #Cubs Meeting was Tracking 1. Tonight was inside the Hut and its grounds, whilst Tracking 2 will be in the nearby woods in a few weeks time.
Anyway, two Sixes were inside and two outside at a time. The inside Sixes did a game involving going to the correct Tracking Sign dotted around the Hut walls, whilst each Six outside created a route for those inside to track. Then they swapped.
The remaining time was dodgeball for whole Pack.

Had the most fantastic Cubs meeting this evening.
Worked on the Money Skills badge we gave each six £2.80 worth of buttons; each of various values.
We told them to ‘buy’ material to build the tallest tower. Each of the materials was priced differently so they had to work out what they could afford.
All I will say is that they were extremely entrepreneurial in their dealings and the future is Cubs!!
Such a lot of fun and an activity we’ll definitely repeat.

Nature walk in the local woods this afternoon with the youngest. He had a sheet of bugs, leaves, animals and habitats to look out for as part of one of his Squirrel Scout badges #nature #woodland #cows #scouts #scoutsuk #SquirrelScouts

Tonight we had our Cub pack cooking competition.
It’s been a while since we did this and it was a lot of fun.
The Cubs made Ratatouille, followed by fruit kebab. They all worked very hard and, mainly, as a team.
We had plenty of parents helping to supervise.
All in all, a successful night.

Tonight at Cubs we started the Digital Citizen badge (Stage 1).
It went well and the Cubs really engaged with the base about passwords. Which is great, because I’m a huge advocate of strong passwords.
We also talked about digital footprints, and what goes into building a computer. This part was a little out dated. The kids don’t know what a graphics card or modem card are!!
All in all a good meeting.
