Did you know that some #ScreenReaders can read text at 900 words per minute and can actually be understood?! It’s like #speedcore / #extratone but with words! https://www.9news.com.au/national/the-secret-language-only-blind-people-can-understand--and-its-not-braille/667eca67-a032-497e-a8fe-2bfd0d57e1c7

@kainoa
Do #screenreaders read 'Firefish' properly? That is the big question for us and the main reason we hesitate the write it like that. Just accessibility.
@colorblindcowboy @Caution @DemocracySpot I wish more people would use #ScreenReaders in their #accessibility work! It's not enough just to have your code pass an automated validator!
@colorblindcowboy @DemocracySpot When all the hash tags are at beginning or end of toot, it is like an aural assault. When they're in-line, it's not so bad. I use #ScreenReaders
@ClimateNewsNow Can you please edit the hashtags so they are CamelCase? That way #ScreenReaders (see what I did there eheh) can read them better :)
Example: #ClimateChange instead of #climatechange
Hello there. So, I never thought I'd ever be using Mastodon for this and its a longshot but I'm looking for a paid job. I'm a senior in College and I'm going to be graduating with a degree in business management in May and I want to be ready. For my skills, I'm well-versed in Microsoft products, particularly Microsoft Excel and Microsoft word though Excel is my prefered application considering I wish to work with spreadsheets. Yes, I'm totally blind but that shouldn't be an issue because of #screenreaders and #ADA #accommodations and #RemoteWork. So, if anyone is looking for a dedicated person who genuinely enjoys helping others and working with functions from #statistics to #financial functions using #appliedMath, I am willing to work for you so help me #GetFediHired. Resume will be sent apon request through DM's. Thank you, and boosts are absolutely encouraged.

They won't know they have done anything wrong.
And they will be blocked by #Publishers. Per a couple of sites. That do not describe what they consider #AI.
Spell and Grammar Check were listed on one site. Do they consider Word, Scrivener, #ScreenReaders, #Dictation (Dragon), and Read Back programs that allow #Blind, #DeafBlind, #Autistic people, and people with cognitive disabilities to write?
How many #Disabled #Authors will these polices block from being published?

::before and ::after and #screenreaders:
IIUC screen readers may not see ::before and ::after because they're not part of the DOM.
Are there any screen readers that created special logic to find them nonetheless? Or are they always invisible?
Today I found myself thinking about #screenReaders and stuff. Like I've made a point to #altText all my image posts (though I boost posts without it) as I consider it a matter of just straight up politeness.
... But not being #visionImpaired myself (I have mild astigmatism, a pair of glasses fixes it, doesn't count :P), I found myself wondering how much good alt text on certain posts actually does for those folks. Would love to hear from someone who *is*.
Cuz like. Sure, with a meme or a screenshot, a text description is great because 90% of the point of the picture is in the text it contains anyway. Same for a comic, turn it into a narrative text.
But what about straight-up art posts, or photographs? Does a text description of the contents help at all?
And like. Is there a proper way to write them? Cuz if so I want to learn it.

Another accomplishment in the learning of Jaws scripting. I just created two Scripps to report the elapsed time, and the remaining time of a file in the VLC media player. Super excited!!! Little steps. I also learned how to activate the jaws scan, and invisible scan cursors in scripts. It seems like the scan cursors are the only way I can navigate to VLC window. #blind #accessibility #ScreenReaders

Reminder that not everyone who needs #captions is #blind.
People on text-only web-browsers, data-saving connections, #translation software, #ScreenReaders, and people who are simply #VisionImpaired use these sites on a text-only basis, but are capable of looking at the #images / #art. For them, the #caption helps them decide if they want to.
For three months after my #COVID infection started in my eyes, I could see once the blindfold came off, but still it took a lot of work.

So, I've started to adopt microblog punctuation, which means not ending a sentence with a "." if it's the end of a paragraph.
edit: not on this post, though...
But now that my headphones read my notifications, I realize that it messes with the intonation, and obfuscates phrasing. Is that also a problem with #ScreenReaders provided explicitly in the name of #accessibility ?
Is it possible to make a graph #accessible for #ScreenReaders? I'm adding line charts to a web app, using chartjs.
I'm planning to include a summary like min, max, average, median etc., but that's not enough to describe the complexities of a graph. Is there anything more I can do? Would it be useful to include a full table of all the points of the graph?
Also I am already planning to consider color blindness and zooming in/scaling up, anything else to consider?

This is by far the most complete and most often updated list of blind accessible android games available, but it will need to be translated from Brazilian Portuguese. Totally worth it though!

I had disabled this #FedilabApp setting a while ago, but I think a bug that affected #CamelCase has been fixed now. Previously the app would autocorrect hashtags to all lowercase — e.g. "camelcase" — and there was no way to prevent it. That wasn't good for those using #ScreenReaders or other #accessibility tools.
Gonna give it another try as it's really convenient to automatically copy the OP's hashtags when replying.

@menelion @ActionRetro it's really useful as it works on both #screenreaders ,#TUI-based #Browsers and #narrowband connections.
And I don't just mean #EDGEland throttled #2G but like #Iridium @ 2.400 bit/s (!!!)…

@mloxton I usually do the same, but it was pointed out to me, by a person that has personal experience with blind people on a daily bases and screen readers, that they stop the flow of the text while being red. Of course we may have to ask a person relying on screen readers to know for sure.
But for me it sounds logical that every time the text is red as hastag something that this may be an obstacle.
So please people that use screen readers tell us your opinion.

@SamiMaatta Neither had I until I asked, when they’re grouped together some #ScreenReaders try to read them as one long word eg smileyfacesimleyfacesmilieface as opposed to a small pause between them.
I was tooting to a screen reader supplier who told us this.
