Now that April is over and the hard work of pushing through Camp NaNo is done, I think I'll reward myself by returning to an old story of mine that I've had some fresh new ideas about.

So for #CampNaNoWriMo I ended up with just over 15k words, which was only half of my goal. BUT! I came out with a clear direction for my story, much deeper worldbuilding, and a sense that I can, in fact, finish this dang thing.

Well the end of April gardening needs have left me too sore and tired to think about writing this past week. I'm going to try for a hail Mary and get 5k words out before May, but regardless, I'm happy with my progress on my WIP.

Between 2 writing sessions, I got 1577 words written today. After a very long weekend and a full writer's block on Monday, I'm back and feeling the groove again. Starting to accept that this first draft will not be done by the end of April, so open to ideas on how to keep momentum once the challenge ends.

I kind of dipped out of Mastodon for a bit during the winter, so I'm out of the loop on the typical hashtags that the #WritingCommunity of the Fediverse uses, but I'm still all in on #Scribbledons.

After years of inundation of articles about how aspiring authors NEED a social media following or big email list to get published, I found a Reddit thread where people basically said "if you're writing fiction, the story matters most. You don't need to be a social media wizard for a publisher to want your story."

And let me tell you l, the weight that was removed from my mind after seeing that!

674 words today. Really pushing myself to remember "It's a first draft, it's ok if it's rocky." It goes against all my impulses, but I've learned from experience that it's the best way for me to get through a first draft.

Despite feeling like crud, my mind has been pretty sharp today. I was able to crank out 2031 words. I'm just about back on track, but more importantly, I've figured out the new culture I'm introducing in the book, which was part of what was blocking me heading into this section of the story.

As a #writer, I tend to be a tad verbose. I've always known this, as my "short" stories can quickly outpace their intended word count. So I really shouldn't be surprised that at just over 20k words on my WIP novel, I still feel like I'm just in the beginning, but here I am, surprised at my own wordiness yet again!

Seriously, this baby is going to be way more than my target of 50k words when it's all said and done.
