The little thorn that is my #scythe 's ditch blade is great for path-mowing. I did the whole nature path all the way round, both sides, yesterday, and today I'm resting.

We went to estate sales and I got a pitch fork to help deal with all this hay I'm generating while #scything and a peening hammer.

Things I can do, cutting grass with a #scythe, that I can't do with a gas mower:
- cut grass under the closed fence gate
- cut grass around a sleeping cat without waking the cat

How did I end up scything for a couple hours? I was only going to trim the bit between the house and the compost bin . . .

A nice thing about #scything is that it's quiet and a person can hear themselves think.
So yesterday I was thinking that scything is basically . . . running the grass through with a sword.

Hi Fedi, here is my re- #introduction

I belive in #lowtech and #notech to reduce dependency on industries we don't share values with. I learn #scything and making #textiles - I knit but also learn using an oldschool #knitting machine.

I also apply ecofeminist and lowtech principles to IT, bringing critical perspective on the Tech. I do itsec trainings for activists as my contribution to better world.

Finally, I managed to escape city to live more #rural life.

Btw, I use #Arch ;)

Practiced with a scythe for the first time today.

I absolutely love it.

Morning folks.

Any fellow scythers on here ? I've got a Austrian scythe which gets a lot of use - mainly edging and around apple trees. I took a beginners course a few years back at the Weald & Downland living museum https://www.wealddown.co.uk/courses/ years ago, not sure if they still run the course. I mowed a wasp's nest I recall..The venue also features in BBC "The Repair Shop"
