I am going through a tangible feeling of "what now?" after the #SeaIceDataAssimilation workshop. It is not exhaustion, more the incomfort of going back to "the usual" without knowing what's the next biggish thing.
After a very inspiring #IICWGDA11 workshop this week on #SeaIceDataAssimilation I've downloaded some test L2 #AMSR2 #SIC observations and already got a convertor going to put it in the necessary format for assimilation.
Just gotta think about superobbing and thinning, but hopefully that'll be straightforward!

Christopher Jones (Univ. North Carolina) introduces Data Assimilation for Lagrangian #SeaIce Models.
New formulations are needed to include the time-varying vertices of the mesh in the Data Assimilation state vector. #IICWGDA11 #SeaIceDataAssimilation

Today (March 23rd) is the last day of #IICWGDA11 at @Meteorologisk.
A final day full of #SeaIceDataAssimilation talks and posters.
Below are two computer-generated views of our workshop. What do you think ๐? #chatgpt

Marina Durรกn Moro (MET Norway) carries assimilation of Level2 #SeaIce Concentration from #AMSR2 : from each orbit individually.
This performs better than assimilating daily average products, but there are regional dependency.

Anton Korosov (NERSC) presents the new #SeaIceAge Climate Daya Record. It is based on a Lagrangian mesh and gives access to the fraction of individual age classes.
(sorry for the view angle, I am co-chairong this morning)

@lavergnetho it's been a great first day of the workshop! All credit to the organisers!
And of course it's been great to meet you in person too - so many avenues of collaboration to explore! #SeaIceDataAssimilation
Phil Browne @phil_browne from ECMWF presents the updates in #SeaIceDataAssimilation in coupled ocean and sea-ice reanalysis.
So nice to finally meet Phil in person at #IICWGDA11 after many contacts online and on social media!

Davi Mignac Cameiro, from UK Met Office, presents about #SeaIce thickness #DataAssimilation in the #FOAM system. Both SMOS and CRYOSAT2 data are assimilated independently. #IICWGDA11 #SeaIceDataAssimilation

Jack Landy (CIRFA/UiT) shares some of the challenges deriving summer sea-ice freeboard and thickness from CryoSat2.
A team effort that now delivers year-round data in the #Arctic.

We are getting ready to kick-off the 11th International Workshop on #SeaIce Modelling, Assimilation, Observations, Predictions and Verification.
We start Tuesday 21st at 9am CET in #Oslo (and online).
Follow #IICWGDA11 and #SeaIceDataAssimilation for updates (and help the tooting going, please!)
