Snow fell on the Cuillins only last week. They looked like a Toblerone carton. Now the snow is nearly gone. It’s the time for new growth. Greenery has returned to the land. Springtime is really here. Joy Abounds! This is the view from Roag.

Remembering the EPIC school of fish I got to snorkel through last summer. It truly was an unforgettable experience!

What’s next in my favourite photos of 2022? Ah yes! The lighting in this image of an edible sea urchin (Echinus esculentus) in amongst the kelp is 👌. Another highlight from my snorkel in the Sound of Mull.

The roundup of my favourite 2022 photos continues! Being in the middle of a school of fish whilst snorkelling in Scotland was such a memorable experience. I could even feel them flopping on my head at the surface!

I think between now and chrimbo I’m going to do a roundup of my favourite photos from the last year. I love the way the red rags seaweed (Dilsea carnosa) in this photo is so striking against the kelp.

This North Sea tube anemone (Cerianthus lloydii) wasn’t found in the North Sea, but in a sea Loch off the the Atlantic (I know the North Sea is part of the Atlantic too, but this was on the west side of Scotland rather than the east). They live all around the UK, and I saw this one intertidally up in the Scottish Highlands. The tentacles retract into the tube when disturbed. It was an exciting find!

Remembering the periwinkle-covered shore of Loch Linnhe this summer. I got to watch the teeny tiny snails eat their lunch!

I’ve just posted this on my socials, so thought you might like to see it too. A #photooftheday is one of the things I’m known for.
