It was a cloud-filled sky as we arrived for sunset this summer evening but the sun found an opening in the cloud cover to peek through and illuminate the Gulf water. The beautiful sea oats were in full bloom and stood silently in the salty night air. I always love a good silhouette too.

A moody evening on the Gulf of Mexico as I photographed the sunset through the last of the sea oat beach grasses. In late summer when the seed heads are in full bloom, I love to see them swaying in the salty ocean breeze. Used for erosion purposes along coastal Florida, they’re so environmentally valuable that it’s illegal to pick, them.
