For some more context: this is a speculative turtle-mimicking #SeaSerpent which has a body width 75-90% of the total body length and a body depth 60-70% of the TBL. The body length isn’t quite Perucetus-sized (13.71 m) but if my calculations are correct, it should somewhat exceed the 340 ton estimate for Perucetus!

Satirical long-necked #Basilosaurus illustration produced by Anthonie Cornelis Oudemans in his book “The Great Sea-Serpent”. The context is that Mr. Searles V. Wood Jr. speculated — in the journal Nature! — about Basilosaurus being responsible for long-necked #SeaSerpent sightings. Seemingly he had no access to a skeletal (?!?)

I can’t believe it has been around 20 YEARS since I illustrated the Bruce Champagne #SeaSerpent pantheon. So #DazzleCamouflage was at least planned to come in different colors including the blues and yellows described by the #SeaSerpent eyewitness (the greens I’ve seen look pretty drab and olive-y). They also look WAY more like the illustration than Giraffe coloration! I’m a bit perplexed as to what exactly is going on; I’d say it’s quite relevant the sighting was recorded 50 years after it (allegedly!) occurred.

Did you know there has been an Australian #SeaSerpent sighting with #DazzleCamouflage ? It’s true…………. truly not actually the case, sadly.

The eyewitness from the HMAS Kurumba was *attempting* to draw Giraffe-like coloration and accidentally rendered it as Dazzle Camouflage. Apparently the spots were blue, green and yellow… weird!
