This SDOT "review
of vision zero efforts is already pissing me off.
This was a nice surprise! I’m happy to see speed cushions & surface repairs are coming this spring to 15th Ave S on #BeaconHill . This is based on feedback during various meetings, listening sessions, & public surveys. Thank you SDOT @Spottnik ! #Seattle #SeattleDOT

Shout out to @Spottnik, the new director of #Seattle #DOT who came in saying #VisionZero and #SafeStreets were his top priority
#SDOT just released their detailed org chart (kudos to all public agencies that make their org charts public). #SeattleDOT now includes 50 people directly tasked with #safety including #SafeRoutestoSchool, #CompleteStreets, #ADA, #Bike & #Pedestrian planners. Led by Jim Curtin who began at SDOT a decade ago with just a 3-person VisionZero team.

It's disappointing that SDOT is already dismantling parts of the improvements at 83rd. If they aren't working, then this work should've been paired with communication.
7) in the next two years, SDOT will try out renting electric vehicles for their operations.
Again, no commitment to switch to electric vehicles. Just one to "pilot" something. Don't forget that SDOT's fleet is a small fraction of the city's transpo emissions.
4) in 6 months, SDOT plans to have a plan for a "Climate Emergency Response Framework" for informing the OneSeattle plan and the transportation master plan(s).
a plan to have a plan that is a framework for evaluating other plans. Again, better than not thinking about climate (Seattle's normal MO), but it's 3 or 4 levels of meta away from *doing* anything.
1) is a commitment to building 3 *pilot* low-emissions neighborhoods by 2028. Specifically included is a super-block idea, which I really like.
*BUT* five years is a long time, and it's a rare infrastructure goal that gets done even close to on time.
Still, it's a start and CM Mosqueda can tie her plan to create a Capitol Hill super-block to this commitment.

As reported by @typewriteralley, here's Mayor Harrell's climate executive order. It's a step up from doing nothing, but there's a lot of weak sauce in it.
Gonna comment on each item in subsequent posts. Keep in mind I'm just a cranky guy on the internet. There will be more in depth commentary from people who know better.

"Hello, baseball fans! It's your favorite broadcaster, Dave Niehaus, here to announce the exciting news that the West Seattle Bridge is finally open to the public!

In continuing Seattle Dept of Transporterion hostility to people who cannot drive, the sidewalks on BOTH sides of Rainier between 23rd & Massachusetts are closed. There’s no detour sign at all for a closure at State St on the west side until you get to it (it’s also not a cane detectable closure). On the east side there are signs at 23rd Ave S directing sidewalk users to go to the west side. Nothing will get fixed because it’s a holiday weekend but I have reported it. #Seattle #SeattleDOT
I have been sitting at Broadcast Coffee in front of the new bike lane on Roosevelt Way NE, just north of NE 65th St, and I’ve seen 4 drivers park in the bike lane within about 1 hour. SDOT has prioritized fitting 3 one way traffic lanes in next to a light rail station over providing load zones for the businesses here. #SeaBikes #SeattleDOT #Seattle
