I ventured up to Licton Springs Park, the source of the namesake reddish iron oxide spring that's one of the few Puget Sound Salish place names still in use in the Seattle area today. (It's about a 10 minute walk west from the Northgate Link station, near Woodlawn Ave N & N 97th St.)

While you must navigate a steep icy hill on a closed street to reach it, the design of Seattle's Fremont Peak Park (near Palatine Ave N & N 45th St) takes the alignment of the winter solstice into consideration.

I love stumbling upon monkey puzzle trees (Araucaria araucana), a species native to Chile, in Seattle. This one is in the Arboretum, but not the one was relocated from Ballard in 2008 that started out as a "quirky gift" from a teenage son to his mother, who planted it and it grew to 21 ft.
Fun fact: Monkey puzzle tree saplings were handed out to Century 21 World's Fair visitors in 1962.

It was drizzle-snowing up on Seattle's Capitol Hill earlier, but down in Montlake in the Arboretum, it's been drizzle-misting. Enjoy your Saturday and whatever microclimate you may encounter.
