The U District Street Fair is a periodic reminder of how nicely a pedestrianized, car-free space would work along University Way NE (aka The Ave) in Seattle.

All is quiet on the Montlake Cut.
Something I did not know but do now: The great blue heron is the official city bird of Seattle.
Here's one I recently stumbled upon on Marsh Island along the soggy Arboretum Waterfront Trail.

When you speed around town at 40 mph in a car, truck or SUV, you're going to miss the oddities you'd otherwise stumble upon on foot, bike or kayak. Slow down and you might discover a dinosaur ...

I ventured up to Licton Springs Park, the source of the namesake reddish iron oxide spring that's one of the few Puget Sound Salish place names still in use in the Seattle area today. (It's about a 10 minute walk west from the Northgate Link station, near Woodlawn Ave N & N 97th St.)

Enjoy the sunshine, Seattle.
King tide walk: Around high tide at Golden Gardens beach in Seattle earlier this morning ... Fortunately, there's not much wind, so no waves were overtopping the recently deposited berm of stones and rocks pushed ashore during the recent storm.

For those looking to traverse the University Bridge by foot or bike, this is what you're dealing with as we head toward sunset. (From my walk back after a coffee break.)

For those familiar with Eastlake Ave East in Seattle, have you ever wondered why there are 32 sandblasted glass medallion designs embedded in the sidewalk honoring microorganisms like E. Coli?

I love stumbling upon monkey puzzle trees (Araucaria araucana), a species native to Chile, in Seattle. This one is in the Arboretum, but not the one was relocated from Ballard in 2008 that started out as a "quirky gift" from a teenage son to his mother, who planted it and it grew to 21 ft.
Fun fact: Monkey puzzle tree saplings were handed out to Century 21 World's Fair visitors in 1962.

It was drizzle-snowing up on Seattle's Capitol Hill earlier, but down in Montlake in the Arboretum, it's been drizzle-misting. Enjoy your Saturday and whatever microclimate you may encounter.

I'm not sure who may know the answer to this question, but is Jesse Avenue West the only "Avenue" in Seattle that is simply a pedestrian ramp right of way?
