Loons can be freaky as shit. I'm sitting here randomly staring at a spot in the lake, mind a thousand miles away, and suddenly a loon rises up precisely where I was staring. And then another pops up about 3 feet away.

A wild mallard mama duck and at least 6 babies just cruised by within 3-5 feet off the shoreline.

Somewhere in this quince bush is a ruby throated hummingbird nest. I'll find it today. There is also a hummingbird clearly visible in this picture - but I'm not going to point out where.

So the fish ladder in Newport Maine, out of Lake Sebasticook, was seeing a steady trickle of fish up it tonight. There were more often fish in the (single) fast part I was watching than not.
There was also a large caddisfly flight taking place.

Well, there was a common loon calling tonight on Lake Sebasticook in central Maine. And frogs are calling as well. I first heard the loon at 2 am, about 2 nights ago. Cora the bulldog made a rare middle of the night request to go outside to pee.
