I’m realizing that at its heart, this POV arc is a #mystery #WhoDunnit. Part of the problem with the post-midpoint scenes is that only one suspect remains, making the story seem like it’s stalled until the protagonist figures it out.

Among other things, I need to maintain the mystery. Make sure other suspects are guilty of and hiding something, just not the main thing. I can already tell the #SecondDraft is going to be much stronger. I’m learning so much.

We approach politics too often as passive spectators, watching, with our popcorn, a soap opera on which we can’t wait to see what the writers come up with next.

But this is not a soap opera, and people suffer every day that we accept our place in the audience instead of picking up our pens, recognising our agency, and writing new stories for ourselves.
