The Swinging Cats - "Mantovani"

The Swinging Cats are the newest group to be added to the 2-Tone roster, only a week after The Selecter quit the label. And just like The Specials, they hail from Coventry, England.

2 Tone offered them a one off-single recording deal. The eventual release, "Mantovani", appeared and disappeared quickly even though the first 20,000 copies were being sold for only 50p.

But I suspect most people got this one the way I did. From the “This Are 2 Tone” compilation.

rightly embraced the phrase 'The personal is political' to make clear that what happens in the home is as important as what happens in the board room and the legislature.

While that phrase has fallen out of common usage (I foresee its return; thanks, SCOTUS), I've been toying with the phrase 'The *potential* is political' as a way of roping in the results of so many personal, municipal, corporate, and legislative actions.

There's a quarter of a blog post waiting on this.

The Beat are the latest signing to the successful Two-Tone Records label. They’re a combo of mixed mod and ska roots from Birmingham, UK. The A side of their debut is a cover of The Miracles “Tears of A Clown”. It’s good.
