It is not quite this easy, but I have definitely found more peace in secular Buddhism and the pursuit of mindfulness than I have in any other mental-health/lifestyle fe management context. #SecularBuddhism #HealingFromTrauma #AutismAndBuddhism

The #SecularBuddhism that thinks the original Buddha was an secular, euro-enlightenment-like thinker are almost certainly wrong.
I don't think it is a problem for the philosophical project. The Dharma is the Dharma, it doesn't need a perfect founder and a set of inerrant texts.
The original Buddha almost certainly didn't challenge most of the Dharmic religious claims of the day (Karma, Rebirth, etc) and Theravada is no more secular than Mahayana.
A random collection of the 2nd sort of #SecularBuddhism in the sense of the podcast and internet forum
Belief that
- Theravada is already somehow secular
- Early texts are the true Buddhist texts & later are superstitious corruptions
- True Buddhism has been corrupted with cultural baggage and/or non-Buddhist syncretism
- The historical Buddha was some sort of European Enlightenment thinker
I think this 2nd sort of #SecularBuddhism is problematic
What is #SecularBuddhism ?
1 - generically, heterodox Buddhist who do not believe in anything incompatible with modern science. So
- no reincarnation
- no magic
- no strong karma
- no superbeings
- no devotion to superbeings
(but all of these are targets of reinterpretation)
2 - specifically the cluster of ideas followed by the Secular Buddhism podcast and forum. My thought only overlap with this group.
My tag strategy
Your account might need a different strategy!
Tag with something common like #Buddhism to gain followers.
However, the #buddhism tag is full of trash--people using the word #buddhism as "other lesser known religions"
& tag with something less common, like #SecularBuddhism as a topic to *follow*. Hopefully this tag has less trash & can be followed
But if too specific eg #MahayanaSecularPrecepts & people might as well follow the two accounts that tweet about that.

Samsara and where the blame goes
What if we took seriously the idea the world really is inhospitable to us? We've adapted to it as a species, but we are all in a world that cares not if we suffer or die.
Who is to blame now? The social media mayhem really bothered me over the last two days. On one hand, it's my fault for using social media at all
