Just released another awesome post about how you can improve your skills and land a dream job in cyber security.
In this blog post, I will share what I've learned since graduating and discuss some next steps you can take after finishing your computer security degree. If you have just completed your education and are ready to tackle a new job, this post will provide some insight on different tools, platforms, and other resources you can use to further your education and make the most of your time.
It covers various topics such as certifications, online courses, open-source projects, CTFs, building your own tools, and references Paul Jerimy's roadmap for certification.

The joy of seeing my ACC students participate in their Cloud CTF final project is great. They are really working collaboratively and revisiting old tools and concepts learned throughout the semester.
Though, I think I underestimated their engagement and maybe should raise the minimum point value a bit next time. 😅

It’s interesting to be coming into the #pentesting world from the perspective of a developer turned dev ops turned security. I know most of the product tools like databases or frameworks. But only from a utility/defensive perspective rather than an offensive one. I also know programming and can write scripts to automate so much work for myself. I’m still learning though what that work needs to be.

#SecurityEducation update.
Worked through the entirety of the tier 0 machines on #HackTheBox. Thankfully nothing that I’m unfamiliar with except for some utilities like rdp and a bit of rsync (can’t remember when I last used the latter).
Went on to complete a couple of Tier 1 machines.
Enjoying the structure here. Tier 0 was tooling. Tier 1 builds on that and introduces concepts like sql injection. Still nothing I’m unfamiliar with.

For what it’s worth, even with an account with no followers it feels really embarrassing to share that I’m doing the #HackTheBox starting point stuff. It’s weird to be pivoting to a new career line at this point in my work life. But I don’t want to shy away from sharing the journey.

Restarted my #HackTheBox education today. Did not get as much done as I wanted to. Power interruptions + dusty knowledge meant I spent about 40 minutes getting setup.
For context, I use a remote machine on vultr as my lab. Unfortunately I had to remind myself how to setup access to pieces of it and how to get the vpn access for #HTB setup correctly too.
But I am all setup and was able to complete #Redeemer from #StartingPoint
