Glad NATO is finally talking about the problem of industrial capacity for the manufacture of munitions. Horrified that it has taken a year to get to this point. Can any of our decision makers really claim they are surprised by Ukraine's ammo consumption?

If I were a state looking to drop a lot of money on military equipment, Germany is looking less and less like the place I'd want to do it in. If Scholz's hamstringing of Germany's industry hurts its business, then it will also hurt the country's security. As in so many other Western counties, where is the industrial capacity needed for a rapid build-up in the event of a larger conflict?

If Europe really wanted to free itself of dependence on American arms, this would have been the conflict in which to show themselves capable of such. But with leadership such as Macron's and Scholz's, I'm not holding my breath for any such dramatic changes. Have they already forgotten what kind of creature the previous U.S. president was?

@kniggem Meanwhile, getting tanks to Ukraine will take forever, even if they were approved tomorrow. The country's complacency about European security (outside of the Euro's stability and immigration) is catching up with it. I thought that was clear last February, but the then new government was content to leave a placeholder with the defense ressort, and don't get me started on Scholz's foot dragging....

I‘d like to add another thought: all this high talk of European security autonomy or hightened coordination seem to be dead - again - with such a German chancellor

My desk at work. Admittedly, the autograph from @bfdi is half tongue-in-cheek, but I *do* care about data privacy *very* much. and are obvious, though I still need an and a from somewhere. @Sicherheitspod is an extremely good (german) , , and podcast (You've heard the hosts a lot on TV, Podcasts, etc. this year). The jar is left as an exercise for the reader.

“Covenants, without the sword, are but words.” -Thomas Hobbes.

The fact is that policies that are NOT backed up by enforcement mechanisms are likely to be ineffective. In other words, simply having a policy in place is not enough to ensure that it will be followed – there must be some enforcement mechanism in place to ensure compliance. What are the tactics that carry out your strategies?

"All in all the continued interest in the topic [nuclear signalling] might be useful eventually, including for the academia and think tank world, but we need to survive first."

Friends, if you're not yet subscribed to Dmitry Stefanovich's excellent newsletter StratDela, I can recommend it for round ups on military investments/new systems and analysis of security policy.

As an organisation, does requiring user to change password every 3 or 6 months make any sense if it is not also required to use any kind of password manager ? It seems to me it's the cheap buzz word advise from security consultant, but this is obviously killing password entropy, and low entropy password are not saved by frequent change. I cannot understand the threat model under which this would make any sense (again, if we do not require password manager of any kind). Are there convincing arguments I'm missing?
