I’m starting to use bathroom tissue cardboard tubes for seed starting. I cut them in half and use a sheet of brown paper underneath to keep the seed-starting mix in place. The hardest part is getting the mix into the tubes! #Garden #Gardening #SeedStarting #Vegetables

Soaked a variety of hot chili seeds in the water today. Will be planting them tomorrow. Our gardening season is almost here—time to start seeds every week. Babies will stay in the shade on the patio because it’s too hot to be out in the direct sun yet. Too wet too.

Need a new watering can for watering delicate seedlings. The one I have now, when I pour it out, the droplets are a bit too big and unevenly dispersed and I feel like I'm damaging seedlings with it. cold frame update: continuing to grow visibly every day. the cayenne and mini pumpkin plants even have little flower buds on them. i don't expect those to last, but it's a sign of how happy they are in there. 🌱

Just look at those beautiful tomato seedlings. These babies are Golden Jubilee from Botanical Interests. It’s a medium sized golden slicer/salad tomato with a reputation for producing heavily even through extreme heat. Started 3/25 and potted up on 4/8.

So far the one on front left is the hero. I’m planning to set out the best and give away the others at work.

i anticipate having to bring this in and out of the house at night a few times but the seedlings should be pretty snug in there. the piece of wood is used to prop the lid open for some ventilation.

Potted up two flats of peppers yesterday. There are way more than I’ll actually grow. Most will be given away. I’m running out of room! A friend has a hoop house I can move them to when I need to make room for the tomatoes if the weather is right. 🌶 🍅

I’ve got some signs of germination in the 2nd batch of tomato seeds I started. Using actual seed starting mix, keeping the seeds close to the heat source, and covering them to keep the humidity in seem to be really important.
