Interesting magnitude 5.2 #seismic event - presumed #earthquake in the New Siberian Islands off the #Arctic coast of #Russia 30 minutes ago (2023-07-13Z13:06) - large Lg/surface waves at station IU.TIXI (Tiksi, Russia) so presumed shallow - but very energetic Sn phase. Low P/S ratio usually means likely earthquake. Raises an eyebrow just because it is a relatively aseismic region. (My eyebrows are easily raised - don't worry.)

The mantle is a layer of hot rock between Earth's crust and core. It makes up most of Earth's volume and mass. The mantle has different layers and temperatures up to 3,700ยฐC. Researchers found hidden mountains and valleys in the mantle, formed by sinking tectonic plates. These features affect Earth's dynamics.

A bunch of tools coming together... was revamping a soon-to-be released package that streamlines some data IO and analysis for #seismic datasets that contains pipelines to #yt (and #yt-xarray), #xarray and #geopandas. The package came out of my need to extract data for some k-means analysis, but it also makes it very easy to pop data over to yt and in this case, #yt_idv!

// #Seismic activity notes : From what I understand scientifically, events from 4-6 alleviate plate pressures. There have been an unusual amount since January of 2023. Since we are in a period of larger plate movements, understand that will be a result. But what you should be concerned about is the advent of new fishers that create triggers in previously non active regions. Those might push unexpected events. The phenomenon of, "Super El Niรฑo" doesn't help either.
