While I know my belly is a bit big and my rear a bit flabby, I'm not significantly bothered by either on their own. However, looking at myself in profile in the mirror, I'm definitely not happy with the horizontal distance between the front of my gut and the back of my butt. #overweight #selfimage

Self image is a weird thing, sometimes. I am fully aware of how smart and talented I am, but I was brought up in a household where the adage was “there’s always someone worse off and there’s always someone better” so I have always down played my abilities.

This has carried over into how I view my appearance. I am caught between the “but that person is less attractive and they have a partner, there must be something wrong with me” and the “that person is really attractive and they don’t have a partner so what hope do I have.”

I am smart, but I don’t have to be the smartest.
I am talented, but in my own way.
I am attractive, but not to everyone.

And those caveats are ok. Nobody is perfect, and I am not nobody. I am someone. I am someone worthy of compliments, worthy of accolades, worthy of love. I am worthy.

Most people already know the #bittertruths. Overweight people know their health is affected. The unemployed man knows he needs to pay his bills. The risk taker knows they may fail. Nobody needs your '#realitycheck'.
What people struggle with is #selfimage #love #confidence. They already think I'm the worst. It's my fault. I'll never get there.
At every stage, build people up, guide them to resources, show them how to help themselves. When you give people something to move towards, they take it.

do not collect the evidence by which to willingly think the worst of yourself.

it is a statistical selection. you can as easily do the opposite.

neither is true in their entirety, we are composites. not entirely terrible, not entirely angelic.

to see oneself realistically is the basis of wisdom of practice.
