You know what? Compared to the traditionally-published first editions from a commercial printer, these books are heftier, feel more substantial, look more expensive, and are superior in every way. It’s really stunning how far self-publishing platforms have come.

Dusting off my old #SelfPublished books on #Tarot on Amazon.com, preparing expanded and updated second editions with new and better covers, re-writing portions of those books for their 10th anniversary editions, making them part of a series, planning new books in the series, and learning how to use #Vellum at the same time.

Oh — and the internal graphics all needed to be recreated from scratch to have higher resolution.

And, yes, I’m actually enjoying this.

Yesterday, my girlfriend found a typo in my book Let Your Rainbow Shine. I immediately started beating myself up over it, but I also told my loveable about it, and they said "typos are beautifully human." That's something I think every #SelfPublished author needs to remember. As a reader, I don't mind the occasional typo, missing punctuation, whatever it is. We're human, and it's okay. Be kind to yourself.

Not going to lie - I don't market myself nor am I a brand. I did that dance back when I wrote comics, and it burned me out and made me toxic.

...still, I got that #author website thing. It contains everything I've done as a pro creator, and a #selfpublished one. It's got my successes and my failures - and updates with current #writing projects.

Been working hard inputting more titles to IndieStoryGeek.com and I'm about halfway through the current batch of #SPFBO books! By the time I'm done, Indie Story Geek will have nearly 5000 #SelfPublished #SmallPress and #WebSerial stories listed across a wide range of fiction genres, which is incredible.

I also recently realized that paperbacksandfrybread.com has a whole Indie section, so I've been adding those to Indie Story Geek too, linking back to their site for the buy link.

I have traditionally and self-published titles in my portfolio. The self-published non-fiction easily earned more money, more quickly than the traditionally published titles.

So … why do I continue to fetishize traditional publishing? Why do I think of it as legitimizing my work? All the infrastructure needed to connect directly with my readers is in place. Should I really just … go for it? Have you? And if so, how’s it going?
