This was an interesting & uplifting article on the Writers in the Storm website about helping yourself by visualizing the outcome you want. No, this isn't some secret power. Instead, it's about making it easier to maintain a positive, focused mindset.

I mention comics in the hashtags because the author was a successful comic creator.

Reminder that it's important to engage with politics, nationally and locally, defend others, fight injustice, and work to keep the habitable.

It's also important to take a break for a bit, breathe deeply, hang out with friends, and go for a walk.

the "why" isn't as important as the "what"

the "why" isn't my load to carry or sort, nor would it change the "what"

things become much more clear when i stop trying to make sense of so many conflicting "whys" that make so many confusing lies, and see that as another reason the "what" is so definitive.

i haven't been actively suicidal for some time now, aside from background ideation that has been persistent for decades; but i am wrestling with the fact that i still regret, even resent, the intervention that prevented me from acting on it when i was of the will to do so. it's complex as i think the resentment has more to do with how so much played out after the initial intervention, but then most of that is tied to the who and how initially as well.
i didn't want to be rescued, i didn't want anyone to notice until i was gone. Now, well over a year later, while i am glad to be where i am if i am to be at all, i still find myself coming back to "i wish i'd been quicker about it."

it feels like a critical hurdle in continued recovery that i find my way past that. i dont even know in what context, whether it's coming to terms with my regret on not getting it done or my issues with how the intervention happened and what played out after or if it will need to be all of that and maybe more that i have yet to process.
But right now, i don't know what that looks like.

[i struggle to recommend help lines because of bad experiences with them, but i don't want to hesitate recommending asking for help. If you are struggling with suicidality and you want help, there are help lines and i would be willing to help you locate resources that apply if you want. While my experience here talks a lot about not wanting help, there have been other times in my life where i did want help, i did want someone to see or hear, and didn't always know how to reach out.]

forgiving myself for trusting the wrong people and for giving the wrong people the dearest parts of my heart, for not seeing how much for how long, for giving my self away.
forgiving myself, and now giving for myself.

A particularly acute form of imposter syndrome is triggered by having a presentation proposal accepted for a conference, then looking at the conference website and reading your own presentation synopsis. The immediate "I'm not qualified to talk about THAT!!" reaction is as strong and visceral as it is absurd. There seems to be a part of my brain dedicated to making me feel insecure about my knowledge of my main fields of expertise. It's very annoying.

They say talking to yourself is the first sign of madness...

They are, in fact, wrong. The first sign of madness is Suggs walking up your driveway 😁

Rewrite Your Inner Critic with Meditation
As we go through life, we often find ourselves being our own worst enemy. Our inner critic can be harsh and relentless, constantly berating us with negative self-talk. But what if we could transform that voice into one of kindness and encouragement? Meditation can be a powerful tool in rewriting our inner dialogue

One thing in particular I want to say about this Full Moon Lunar Eclipse is "Watch Your Thoughts." This energy is going to be bringing up past pains, doubts, insecurities, fears, etc. Don't reject the thoughts, but allow them to come up and breathe through them. Cry if necessary. Feel them and release it. Just don't allow yourself to dwell and wallow. If you find your self talk is steering towards negativity, just gently redirect.

“How long do I have to do these stupid affirmation exercises?”
“How often do I have to meditate?”

Do you find yourself asking yourself (or a guide, or mentor, or friend) these kinds of questions? Do you get frustrated with not getting results as quickly as you want? I can relate. Many of the things I’ve done for my own growth have taken far longer to bear fruit than I thought they should. But, the results will come. Read on:

ICYMI:

“I’m not smart enough to get into that school.”
“I’m not dedicated enough to be an entrepreneur.”
“I’m not good-looking enough to go out with him.”

Does the belief pattern of “I’m not X enough” sound familiar to you too? I spent decades mired in those sorts of beliefs, so I’m pretty familiar with them myself. But, I’m not there anymore, and haven’t been in a very long time. Read on for how I got here from there:

“Oh, it was nothing.”
“I had a lot of help; Mary should really get the credit.”
“I just got lucky.”

Do these sound familiar? Many of us find it difficult to acknowledge when we’ve been successful, or accomplished something. Read on for some discussion of why it’s important to do it anyway:

This week I’m talking about our motives for doing the work. Although there’s definitely merit to the idea of doing the right thing for the right reasons, in my experience, doing the right thing for whatever reason is just as good. Read more here:

ICYMI, for the weekend crowd:

“I’ll be successful when I buy my first house.”
“I’ll be successful when I graduate from school.”
“I’ll be successful when I get married.”

Have you played this game before? In addition to being vulnerable to our tendency to move the goalposts, many of these definitions of success don’t actually correspond to what we think is valuable or meaningful. This week I’m talking about some alternate ways to define success:
