The Wicker Woman or Semele in Scrubland: Adele Thomas's unsexy Handel staging opens at Glyndebourne.

There's some decent singing: Stephanie Wake-Edwards and Ayreh Nussbaum Cohen give the best performances as Ino and Athamas.

@La_Pythia Yes, exactly! His mother #Semele had been convined by Hera (in disguise) to ask #Zeus to come to her like he goes to bed with #Hera so he appeared to her in his divine form with fire and lightning. She didn't survive 😔
#Hermes saved preemie #Dionysos and he was sewn into Zeus' thigh where he gestated for 3 months until he emerged a fully grown baby.
