My favourite former #ÖBB 🇦🇹 trainset: a class 4010 unit, making a “surprise” appearance at #Semmering in February 2006. (Surprise, well, the photographer, not checking the timetable, didn’t expect the train coming around the corner 🤓.)
The class was withdrawn in 2008.

🇦🇹🍽️ What a nice day in #Semmering🇦🇹 with light snowfall and a breathtaking mountain scenery. On the way back to #Vienna🇦🇹 it was #ÖBB🇦🇹 RJ 750 with a wonderful stay at the DoNs #diningcar!
The vegetarian hash elbow macaroni🍝 (with pea protein) was delicious 😋!

Today with #ÖBB🇦🇹 RJ 653 "Vindobona" and a comfy visit of the #diningcar! It was a soothing hot chocolate & a "Germknödel", a yeast dumpling with plum jam, butter and poppy sugar 😋!

October 2018: over the #Unesco World Heritage #Semmering 🇦🇹 railway on board the 1950s #ÖBB class #VT5145 #BlauerBlitz. This museum unit comes with #FensterAuf opening windows, very much to the photographer’s delight.

Getting the same #Vienna-#Triest train described here back as far as Graz tomorrow morning as well. I haven't taken the train down to Triest yet, but can reccomend Vienna - Graz, it's a beautiful journey. The most spectacular section over #Semmering is due to be bypassed by a #BaseTunnel in the next few years though for intercity services.

In the last two days Mikaela Shiffrin has won both giant slalom races at Semmering, Austria.
One thing I've noticed in all of her runs there is that she is putting up some of the fastest times through the first sector...where it is not steep at all, the racer is poling out of the start shack, then carving clean turns as speed builds.
I think this bodes well for her future Super G races.
